Woodlands Waterway Lunchtime Run

I tried a new lacing method on my shoes for my lunchtime run today. I had been running with the last 2 eyelets unlaced but I laced the 2nd to last one and then made a loop with the last eyelet and tied the shoes after passing the lace on the other side through that loop. That made it possible to tighten the shoe around the heel but keep the laces closer to the toes loose. Lacing did make the shoe fit feel tighter; I can’t go ½ size up though because most shoes stop being offered in ½ sizes at 12 ½. I’m currently in a 13.

I also found out that the waterway is closed again by Gooses acre. Not sure how long its been like that. I probably haven't run that way since January.

Another sign that I haven't been running regularly for awhile now: I forgot to pack my Garmin this morning. I believe the distance was in the 3 mile range; no clue as to time.

Huntsville State Park

Ran the trails at Huntsville this morning with the Woodlands Fit trail group. Several of them will be running the Hogs Hunt 25k up there next Saturday morning. It was a warm and humid morning but the run felt good; 8.5 miles at a 10:00 per mile pace.

Running with Waldo part deaux.....

Went for a run with Waldo again this morning. Took the Garmin along this time so its an official run! I was going to use my more worn pair of New Balance 1060s for the run but noticed that the right shoe is as worn as my retired 1060s so I now have retired 3 pairs of 1060s with 1 pair still in the box and one with around 150 miles. I hope I like the 1062 that just came out as much as I have the 1060s. My first pair of 1060s I went on a 4 mile run and ran a 1/2 marathon in them the next day. Felt that great right out. My only pair of 1061s gave me a blister my first time out. Glad a new model is already here.

Run stats for today: 1.55 miles right around a 9 minute mile pace.

Will be running trails at Huntsville State Park tomorrow morning......

Running with Waldo

It was dark by the time I got home from work last night so didn't go for an official run but did run around my neighborhood with my almost 2 year old bundle of energy mixed breed dog last night. Waldo is leash trained and he ran by my left side the entire way last night; running actually kept him out of trouble where he normally gets in trouble walking by cats. The short distance and slow pace agreed with my left achilles.
I mowed my lawn for the first time this year earlier today. I started feeling pain in my achilles while I was pushing the mower and am hobbling a little now. Will need to ice it when I get home.

Just back from sports med doc

After laying off running since early February with pain in my left heel that never went away, I finally went to see a sports medicine doctor this afternoon. X-rays revealed no bone spurs or stress fracture so can try to get back to running again. Diagnosis is lower achilles tendonitis and/or plantar fascitis.

Less than 10 days to the Martian 1/2 marathon and my 32nd state, I think I'm just going to start back easy and use the race as a training run.
